The O.O.E. is still a work in progress. The device is composed of several elements including: lighting, transparencies, telescoping steel structure, alternating shutter system, plexiglass screen shutters, focusing lens shutters, and a timing and control circuit.
The O.O.E. (Oscillating Object/ Environment) is a technological attempt to simulate physically entering into a landscape painting. Each of the five planes of the O.O.E. projects a transparency out from its core. This projection is either back projected onto the plexiglass shutters/screens or is projected onto the walls ceiling and floor of the immediate environment through focusing lenses. The shutters are on a timed circuit that will switch the shutters position every five minutes. The telescoping frame allows for the O.O.E. to operate in most environments while still maintaining a focused projection.Artist’s note: The O.O.E., in this prototypical form, was ultimately a failure. The focusing lenses were far too small to expand and image to necessary proportions to fill a space with a focused image. The project continues to hold interest, but will require a significant expenditure to acquire adequate lenses.
